10 Canadian Airbnb Gems

Province of Canada - Sanctuary in the County

Photo: Sanctuary in the County

When our friend Lauren McPhillips over at This Renegade Love visually documented her getaway to Prince Edward County's Airbnb hotspot, Sanctuary in the County, we caught boutique hotel fever. Our admiration for this once hollowed church launched a full investigation into hidden Airbnb gems across the country. What we found were unique interiors along coastlines, among forests, and across cityscapes. In this bucket list of Canadian bed and breakfasts, city meets country and modern meets antique in the most beautiful of ways.

Gone are the days of scouting Expedia for your next getaway. These 10 Canadian Airbnb locations are worth planning your next vacation (or stay-cation) around. Don't see your holiday destination on the list? Refine your search on Airbnb for curated suggestions of B&B's by region.

1. Lo(a)fting in Old Port

Province of Canada - Old Port Loft Airbnb

Location: Montréal, Québec

Cost: $371 / night

Step out of the private elevator into this brick and beam loft with four French balconies sealed by tall, arched windows. Framed maps, hanging clocks, hairpin furniture, spotlight lamps, and hide rugs give the loft a warm, industrial barn vibe that we're here for.

2. Skylit Loft

Province of Canada - Old Montreal Loft Airbnb

Location: Old Montréal, Québec

Cost: $59 / night

You had us at "early 19th century factory loft" and "sky lighting." As a neighbour to the Notre Dame Basilica and the hosts note that "you will hear the bells every hour." We're not sure if that's a pro or con, but it definitely offers tourists an authentic experience in Old Montréal.

3. Chalet Panorama

Province of Canada - Panorama Chalet Airbnb

Location: Saint-Siméon, Quebec

Cost: $295 / night

We'll take a chalet on the rocks, please. Wrapped in rock formations and tall pines, and overlooking the St. Lawrence, this contemporary chalet is a peaceful getaway you should hit up on Canada's east coast. The minimal aesthetic is made warm and cozy with heated concrete floors and a wood-burning fireplace. Marine animal watching is a bonus.

4. Minimalist Cottage

Province of Canada - Airbnb Canada

Location: Golden, BC

Cost: $449 / night

Embed within the Canadian Rockies is this modern, glass cabin. We're going to trust the review from 'Laura' that reads, "perfect for a break from civilization without having to give up on comfort."

5. "Charming Ocean Retreat"

Province of Canada - Nova Scotia Airbnb

Location: Hubbards, Nova Scotia

Cost: $175 / night

From the oak shingles to the subtle sprinkles of nautical décor, everything about this family home says 'a warm maritime must visit.' The oceanside location lends itself to a large family vacation with space to accommodate all the cousins.

6. Penthouse in the Peg

Province of Canada - Penthouse in Winnipeg

Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba

Cost: $275 / night

The Exchange District is one of the better transformations happening in Winnipeg right now. The home owners proudly list their unique home features, our favourite being the barn wood salvaged from local Manitoba grain elevators...what?! The second level terrace is also a nice touch (assuming you're visiting during the summer).

7. Sanctuary in the County

Province of Canada - Sanctuary in the County

Location: Prince Edward County, Ontario

Cost: $199 / night

What was once a hollowed church is now a pristine studio apartment with vignettes that make the drive out so worth it. With banana leaves and a hammock, you (almost) forget about the howling blizzard that's probably transpiring outside.

8. The Meadow House

Province of Canada - Meadow House Airbnb

Location: Prince Edward County, Ontario

Cost: $495 / night

Prince Edward County is back at it again with yet another stunning B & B. This listing had the best real estate photography in our search, by far. We wouldn't mind being cooped up in this professionally decorated interior for a long weekend.

9. Hard Loft in the City

Province of Canada - Airbnb Loft

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Cost: $299 / night

Unlike other in-and-out bed and breakfast spots showcased on Airbnb, this exclusive loft space downtown Toronto caters to long-term travellers looking for a 6 month minimum stay. It may not be the most accessible B & B, but the design work sure warranted a place on our list.

10. Blank Canvas in Gastown

Province of Canada - Gastown Airbnb

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia

Cost: $148 / night

It's amazing how simple, clean details can amplify this little space found in the heart of Vancouver's historic Gastown. Little touches of greenery and a chalkboard wall in this self-proclaimed "artful loft" is where the Province of Canada crew is lounging during our next West Coast trip.
