You know it’s September in Toronto with the arrival of TIFF. This year, as the two before it, we were hanging out in the eTalk Sephora lounge, an interview spot and swag station for a host of TIFF stars. We dropped off some pieces for the odd celeb to grab on their way out (thanks for picking up two of our Les Canadienne tees, Ellen Page. Did we just type that?).
Take a look at our top three TIFF 2017 film picks:
1. The Carter Effect
Produced by Hamilton native Sean Menard, The Carter Effect documents the basketball career of NBA All-Star Vince Carter and his success as a Raptor. We love this nod to Canada. Shoutout Drake for making the cast.
2. Gaga: Five Foot Two
This documentary gives a glimpse into the life of pop music icon Lady Gaga. Little known fact: Offstage, Gaga goes by Stefani Joanne Germanotta.
3. Borg/McEnroe
This film recreates the 1980 Wimbledon Championship between Swedish tennis prodigy Björn Borg (Sverrir Gudnason) and his brash American rival, John McEnroe (Shia LaBeouf). The Globe and Mail may disagree with this pick, but we both agree that Shia likely didn't have to act the part.
