To learn the origins of this made in Canada collaboration story, you have to follow the thread all the way back to Montreal in 1981. That is when Peggy Byron opened Boutique Au Lit, one of the first bed linen shops in Canada to offer pure cotton sheets instead of treated polyester.
The cotton concept flourished and, along with her daughter and son-in-law, Joanna Goodman and Miguel Cardinal, Au Lit Fine Linens made a new home in Toronto. Which, in 2005, is where Province of Canada’s co-founder, Julie Brown, another Quebec resident, was introduced to the world of Au Lit.
A casual midtown stroll, while visiting her then boyfriend, Jeremy Watt, lead to a pop-in at Au Lit’s flagship store at 2049 Yonge St. Jeremy thought Julie would be ‘into’ the Au Lit Fine Linens look and he was right. The brand left a lasting impression on Julie, so much so, that when she decided to move to Toronto from Montreal in 2006, Au Lit was at the top of her list when applying for creative jobs.
Intrigued with the fellow Quebecer, Joanna setup an interview to meet Julie, which led to the discovery that Julie attended the same Quebec high school as Miguel. This "point commun" between Joanna, Peggy, Miguel and Julie, paired with a shared love for design, bonded them together, really forever.
8 years later, influenced by Joanna and Peggy’s passion for natural fabrics and Canadian manufacturing, Julie said so long (but not goodbye), to Au Lit to start her own made in Canada lifestyle brand with Jeremy. Fast forward 9 more years, and we’ve come to this full circle moment, two Canadian brands in bed together.
We wanted to create the "perfect plaid pyjama" that acted as a tribute to Au Lit Fine Linens’ original plaid bedding collection. Modern and traditional mixed with comfort and cozy. Best enjoyed during the Holiday season — once you put them on, you may not take them off until the decorations come down.
